I disagree that fundamentalist views of creationism affect us very little. It is part of a large distrust of science that has lead our government to make some very unwise decisions.
actually, i would argue that it is the vesting of so much power in so few hands that's the issue. you'd probably get conceptually similar results if that person puts their faith in God or Gubmint.
What we're really talking about is information warfare. The common man's *perceptions* are more important to policy than fact or truth. So anything that disrupts the common man's perception of the validity of science is impeding their ability to make or support reasonable policies. Thus vocal creationism is a bad thing, and very relevant to every citizen.
